The Township of Edwardsburgh Cardinal offers summer camp programming for children, and swimming lessons and aquatics programs for residents of all ages.

Summer day camp

Every year, we organize four two-week sessions of summer camp, running Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Our camps take place at the South Edwardsburgh Community Centre and the Johnstown Pool, as well as at the Ingredion Centre and the Cardinal Pool in Cardinal. These camps cater to children aged 5 to 12. Each session of summer camp includes swimming lessons, free swim, crafts and other outdoor activities. 

• One child $225 per session
• Two children $425 per session
• Three children $575 per session 

Online registration for our Cardinal camp and Johnstown camp will be available starting Monday, April 1st at 8 a.m. please note, payment must be made in person.

Leaders in training 

Are you a responsible and enthusiastic individual aged 12 or older seeking to build leadership skills and make a positive impact this summer? Join our summer camps as a Leader in Training (LIT)! As an LIT, you can earn high school volunteer hours while developing your communication and teamwork abilities. Register now!

Swimming lessons

Both Johnstown and Cardinal community pools will offer swimming lessons by the Lifesaving Society’s Swim for Life and Lifesaving Instructional program. Lessons will stress in-water practice to develop solid swimming strokes and skills, as well as Water Smart education which will last a lifetime. Each session is $50 per child and Family Rate (3 or more children) $125 per session. This does not include Bronze level courses. Private lessons will be available in Johnstown on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. for $100. Please note registration will be based on a first come, first served basis. 

Swimming lesson registration will be available in-person the following dates:

• Thursday, May 16th from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the South Edwardsburgh Community Centre (24 Sutton Dr., Johnstown)
• Thursday, May 23rd from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Ingredion Centre (4050 Dishaw St., Cardinal)
• Saturday, May 25th from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the South Edwardsburgh Community Centre (24 Sutton Dr., Johnstown)

Pool opening parties

Boredom buster's

Every year we organize two Boredom Buster day trips for children ages 6 to 15.  You can register your child here starting Tuesday, May 21st at 8 a.m. for either of our trips to Mont Cascade Water Park. 

• Mont Cascade on Wednesday, July 17th, 2024
• Mont Cascade on Wednesday, August 14th, 2024

These trips are $55 per child per trip. Qualified supervisors will accompany the kids and we'll take care of transportation by bus for both trips. Buses will leave the South Edwardsburgh Community Centre at 8 a.m. and return at 6 p.m. on the same day. There are limited spaces available. Payment is due with registration and refunds will not be issued. Please contact our Recreation Coordinator if you have any questions about these trips.

Swim team

Joining a swim team is a fun and rewarding way to strengthen swimming skills and endurance, while having fun with your teammates. Participating in swim clubs can assist with building confidence and enriching your social experiences. You will learn proper stroke techniques, flip turns and dive entries. On weekends, swimmers can have the opportunity to compete against other swimmers in their age and gender categories at local pools. Must have completed swimmer 3 to participate. Swim team practice will begin on Monday, July 1st, 2024. 

• Cardinal swim team practice is from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cardinal pool
• Johnstown swim team practice is from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Johnstown pool. 

Registration will be available starting Tuesday, May 21st, 2024 at 8 a.m. please note registration will be exclusively online. 

Public swim/lane swim

Public swim and lane swim will be available at both the Cardinal and Johnstown community pools this June. Before you visit one of our pools, please view our pool admission standards. View our June, July or August pool schedules. Please note time may change. 

Aquatic fitness

A fun way to exercise with friends and socialize! All Aquafit classes are taught by our energetic instructors so that everyone can experience the benefits of water-based aerobic fitness. Lane swimming is also available for adults only during this time. We ask all participants to complete our Aquafit health form prior to attending class. Aquafit will begin at the Johnstown pool on Tuesday, June 11th from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

• Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Johnstown Pool.

Jr lifeguarding club

Jr Lifeguarding Club offers a unique aquatic alternative for those kids ages 7 to 14 years old who love the water and who are interested in becoming a lifeguard, registration will be available on Monday, June 3rd. Jr. Lifeguarding club will begin on Monday, July 1st, 2024 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
