To swim in the deep end without a lifejacket, everyone must pass a swim test. Because our pools in Cardinal and Johnstown are different widths, swim tests must be completed at each location. If a swimmer passes, they do not need to retake the test for the rest of the season at that pool.
The test involves:
- Swimming two widths of the pool without stopping or touching the bottom or sides
- Showing confidence and control (no panic or struggling, no fear of splashing, or water on face)
- Finishing the swim calm and able to speak with the guard
Swim skills can improve! If you or your child become a stronger swimmer, retesting is available throughout the season. Ask staff at any time.
