Township of Edwardsburgh Cardinal Celebrates Annual Awards Ceremony

The Township of Edwardsburgh Cardinal hosted its Annual Awards Ceremony on Monday, December 16, at the Spencerville Town Hall. The event celebrated the exceptional contributions of individuals, businesses, and organizations within the community.

Mayor Tory Deschamps began the evening by recognizing Ann Shorey, a TWPEC firefighter recently honoured at the Brockville Young Professionals Network 40 Under 40 celebration. Ann’s advocacy for women in firefighting has been a source of inspiration.

Award Recipients:

  • Small Business of the Year: The Rustic Spoon
    Recognized for exceptional growth, community involvement, and outstanding service. Deputy Mayor Dillabough applauded owner Chad Dyke and his team for transforming the business into a true gathering spot.
  • Large Business of the Year: Giant Tiger Distribution Centre
    Awarded for generous contributions to the community, including donations of accessible play structures, support for local food banks, and participation in events like Earth Day clean-ups and Trunk or Treat.
  • Community/Volunteer Group of the Year: South Edwardsburgh Public School Breakfast Club
    Honoured for four years of dedicated service, ensuring students have access to breakfast twice weekly, allowing them to focus on their education.
  • Youth Citizen of the Year: Heidi Garswood
    A Queen’s University student studying Applied Science – Engineering, Heidi was recognized for balancing academic success, sports, and community involvement. Her contributions include coaching, refereeing, umpiring, and performing music at local venues.
  • Citizen of the Year: Lori Lurges
    Lori’s impactful work founding the READ Program at Edwardsburgh Cardinal Public Libraries has provided personalized reading lessons, inspiring countless children and fostering a love for learning.

A Night of Gratitude

The evening concluded with refreshments and closing remarks from Mayor Deschamps: "It’s the collective effort of each and every one of you that makes our community special!"
